Origin/distribution: parts of temperate Europe and Asia, native to England

Habitat: slopes and woodland; shady, rocky, well-drained, likes a dappled wood on limestone, but I think it's pretty adaptable

More: This plant will bulk up and spread by rhizome, and you want it to so you can feel free to cut stems for your flower arrangements and still have plenty left for the hummingbirds to feed on. This is a very classy woodland plant. I have a four year old patch under oak trees that is developing very nicely.
