ABOUT THE MAKER

Gunji Pottery is run by a husband and wife team of Tsunehisa and Keiko Gunji - the two of the most renowned artists and ceramicists in our local Mashiko, a small craft and pottery town 100km north of Tokyo. The Gunjis work together and individually producing ceramic works for everyday and simple pleasure in their beautiful studio filled with aesthetic and surrounded with nature. As Gunji Pottery, Tsunehisa throws and shapes the pottery pieces and Keiko applies designs and decorations by hand painting, slipware, and carving/sculpturing.

We visit Gunji's studio regularly and pick up all the pieces ourselves in person. We are thrilled to be introducing Keiko and Tsunehisa's work to the world through UGUISU.
