How to install HPE 3.20 TB Solid State Drive

  • Power down the server and unplug all power sources. Ground yourself to avoid static discharge and ensure a safe installation environment.
  • Remove the appropriate drive bay or tray from the server chassis according to your server’s maintenance manual. If you’re using a Smart Carrier, detach the carrier as instructed and prepare the SSD for insertion.
  • Align the 2.5" SAS SSD with the backplane connectors and slide it into the drive bay or carrier, ensuring a solid, secure connection. Fasten any retaining screws if required by your server model.
  • Connect the SAS data and power cables to the drive backplane or riser. Confirm that the cables are properly seated and not under tension to prevent intermittent connectivity.
  • Power on the system and enter the server management interface (iLO, iDRAC, or vendor equivalent). Verify that the new SSD is recognized, initialize the drive if required, and apply any recommended firmware updates using digitally signed firmware to maintain security and reliability.
  • Format and partition the drive as needed for your operating system and storage architecture. Run a quick health check and monitor performance to ensure the drive is operating within expected parameters.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: What workloads is this drive best suited for?
  • A: The HPE 3.20 TB SAS SSD is engineered for mixed-use workloads, making it well-suited for databases, virtualization, analytics, large file storage, and other applications that require high throughput, low latency, and reliable performance across diverse read/write patterns.
  • Q: What interface does it use and why is that important?
  • A: It uses a SAS 12 Gb/s interface, which provides higher data transfer rates and lower latency than SATA, enabling faster access to data and better scaling for multi-user, data-intensive environments.
  • Q: How does the firmware signing benefit me?
  • A: Digitally signed firmware helps protect against tampered updates, ensuring the integrity of the software that controls the drive and contributing to overall system security and stability in enterprise deployments.
  • Q: Is there a warranty, and what does it cover?
  • A: Yes, the drive comes with a 3-year warranty from HPE, covering manufacturing defects and standard service options to help maintain uptime in production environments.
  • Q: How does the Smart Carrier affect installation and maintenance?

Simplistic and Inappropriate
Format: Paperback
I was hoping this book would provide insights into how to present complex information in a more comprehensible, useful format, using PowerPoint as the tool. Instead, the overall gist of this book is that presentations should be "dumbed down" as much as possible. The theme the author presents is that presentations should be story based. This is reasonable. However, the method the author recommends is that essentially *all* meaningful, complex (or, as the author prefers "boring") content be removed from the presentation. Presentations then become nothing more than catchy headlines and colorful graphics. All content should be in the presenter's notes (not typically to be provided). This is juvenile and useless and frankly reflects a complete lack of understanding of how presentations are made in a complex business environment.

On the right track
Format: Paperback
This book is a good introduction about how to use story-telling techniques in PowerPoint presentations. There are some good ideas here that you won't find in technical manuals. If you don't know film techniques these will be eye-opening. But the book could have been much stronger if it were to push these concepts to the next level. I saw a PowerPoint presentation with Andy Goodman, who teaches more or less the same thing, and his presentation nailed these concepts more cleanly than this book does. But again, this book is definitely worth checking out if you haven't studied storytelling before.

An Essential
Format: Paperback
I've created PowerPoints for executives in major corporations and national non-profits for years now, and this is one of the first books I suggest anyone who needs to create their own PowerPoint look to. Beyond Bullet points is accessable enough that the novice PowerPoint user can understand what's going on and use the lessons in his or her next presentation; it's also detailed and challenging enough that even an old salt like me can find things to learn and do. Don't be another person who stands on stage reading their PowerPoint, and don't let reading your slides distract the audience from your presentation; follow the suggestions in this book and wow your audience.
