The Cisco Barebone System delivers enterprise-grade computing density in a compact 4U rack-mountable chassis. Engineered for data centers that demand exceptional processing power, massive memory capacity, and configurable I/O, this barebone platform is designed to anchor high-performance workloads across virtualization, databases, analytics, and mission-critical applications. Built on Cisco UCS-inspired architecture, it provides the foundation for scalable, four-socket performance while offering flexible expansion options to accommodate growing workloads and evolving workloads.

With support for up to four Intel Xeon E7 family processors (including v2 and v3 generations such as E7-8800, E7-4800, and E7-2800 series), this 4U system is purpose-built for compute-intensive environments. It is tailored for enterprise-grade reliability and dense memory configurations, leveraging advanced memory technologies to unlock large in-memory databases, real-time analytics, and virtualization-rich environments. The chassis is designed to maximize rack density without compromising serviceability, ensuring complex deployments can scale with ease while maintaining straightforward management and maintenance workflows.

This Barebone System emphasizes flexibility and configurability. It supports a substantial memory footprint—up to 6 terabytes of DDR3 or DDR4 memory across an expansive 96 DIMM slots—enabling memory-hungry workloads to run with excellent latency characteristics and high throughput. The platform also accommodates a sizeable storage footprint, offering capacity to host a broad range of operating systems, hypervisors, databases, and applications. Its architecture is optimized for virtualization and large-scale workloads, providing the bandwidth and expansion capacity needed for consolidating workloads and simplifying data center operations.

In addition to raw performance, the system is designed to integrate smoothly into Cisco UCS-based environments, benefiting from streamlined management, standardized infrastructure, and scalable network connectivity. This makes it suitable for data centers pursuing paralleled workloads, software-defined data centers, and consistent, repeatable deployments. By combining compute density with memory capacity and flexible storage options, the Cisco Barebone System stands out as a capable foundation for businesses seeking to maximize performance per rack and optimize total cost of ownership over time.

  • High-density compute: Four Intel Xeon E7-family processors provide substantial multi-core performance and parallel processing capabilities for demanding workloads such as virtualization, large databases, and analytics.
  • Massive memory capacity: Up to 6 TB of DDR3/DDR4 memory across 96 DIMM slots delivers exceptional in-memory performance, enabling faster data access and larger working datasets for critical applications.
  • Scalable storage and I/O: Flexible storage options and I/O expansion support help you tailor the system to your data, workloads, and resiliency requirements, whether you’re consolidating virtual machines or running dense databases.
  • Enterprise-grade reliability: The design prioritizes reliability and manageability in data centers, aligning with Cisco UCS principles for consistent, scalable infrastructure management and deployment.
  • Future-proof versatility: Built to adapt to evolving workloads, this 4U barebone system accommodates varying configurations, ensuring long-term usefulness as your business needs shift.

how to install Cisco Barebone System - 4U Rack-mountable - 4 x Processor Support

  • Prepare the installation site: Ensure a suitable 4U rack space with adequate power supply, cooling, and cable management to support high-density computing.
  • Mount the chassis: Install rails or mounting hardware compatible with your data center rack and secure the barebone system into place following standard rack-mount procedures.
  • Install processors: If required, insert up to four Intel Xeon E7-series processors into the processor sockets, ensuring proper seating and thermal interface material as specified by Cisco UCS guidelines.
  • Load memory: Install DDR3/DDR4 memory modules into the DIMM slots, distributing modules evenly across memory channels to achieve the full 96-DIMM capacity, and verify BIOS/UEFI detects the installed memory.
  • Configure storage and I/O: Attach storage drives and expansion cards as needed, configuring RAID controllers or storage controllers per your workload requirements. Connect networking interfaces and management ports, then verify that the system recognizes all components.
  • Power on and manage: Power up the system and enter the system BIOS/UEFI to configure boot devices, memory settings, and processor performance profiles. If using Cisco UCS Manager, enroll the barebone system to the UCS domain for centralized provisioning and policy-driven management. Install the preferred operating system or virtualization hypervisor and apply updates as needed.
  • Test and validate: Run baseline performance and stability tests to confirm that CPU, memory, storage, and I/O subsystems operate correctly under representative workloads before migrating production workloads.

Cute, Well Done, Much Better Than I Presumed
Format: Paperback
I am not the target for this book. I'm a 48 year old man (wow, that hits harder when you type it...) But you know what? This is really good! It's a quick read, the whole story is VERY comic book superhero origin (which... I mean... it should be, that's what it is!) We have a young lady who is in the foster system, so needless to say she's always suspect of everyone and everything. When she finds a new set of foster parents, her curiosity about her foster mother gets the best of her. What she finds? Paints that give super powers! Wacky hijinks ensue.. until the military wants the paint back. Then it's less wacky. But it's adorable! The art is great for the material, the coloring is amazing, and the story is surprisingly cute. It's genuinely good! My 9-year old daughter, who IS the target audience, loved it too, and getting her to read anything is like pulling teeth, so if she likes it, it must be good!
