The spacer allows for all the connection cables connected to camera's side to run through the spacer block. This way the camera can be switched from horizontal to vertical in one flip, without having to reconnect all the cables again. This is especially ideal when shooting tethered to a computer. Connects to the L bracket with 2 hex screws
