Stop Small Hive Beetle Larvae in the Soil Where They Pupate — 750g Treats Multiple Hives, Lasts Up to 3 Months, Australia’s First Purpose-Built SHB Soil Treatment.

If you’ve ever lost a hive to Small Hive Beetle (SHB) slime-out, you’ll understand the importance of breaking the SHB life cycle — and that’s exactly what Temephos Small Hive Beetle Granule does. Developed in Australia after 5 years of trials on commercial hives, this APVMA-registered granular treatment (Approval #93064/137869) targets SHB larvae in the soil around your hive, stopping them from pupating and emerging as the next wave of adult beetles.

It’s one of the smartest, most affordable additions to your Small Hive Beetle management toolkit — and a genuinely Australian innovation built specifically for Aussie conditions.

Why ground treatment is the smartest SHB strategy

Most beekeepers focus their SHB management efforts inside the hive — traps, oils, oil trays, beetle blasters. These all play important roles. But there’s a critical phase of the SHB life cycle that happens outside the hive in the soil — and most beekeepers miss it entirely.

When SHB larvae have finished feeding inside the hive (often after slime-outs or in weak colonies), they drop to the ground and burrow into the soil to pupate. After 2–4 weeks underground, they emerge as adult beetles ready to invade your hives all over again. A single overlooked pupation cycle can repopulate your apiary with hundreds of new beetles in weeks.

Temephos Granule attacks SHB at this exact stage — in the soil, before they become adults again. This breaks the life cycle and dramatically reduces the next wave of adult beetle pressure in summer.

What is Temephos and how does it work?

Temephos (15g/kg in this formulation) is an organophosphate insecticide — a Group 1B mode of action — that works through anticholinesterase activity on insect pests. Applied as a lightly sprinkled granule on the ground around your hive, it targets pupating SHB larvae as they burrow into the soil. The active ingredient kills larvae before they can complete pupation, dramatically reducing the next generation of adult beetles.

Importantly, Temephos works outside the bees’ detection range in the soil — when used as directed, it does not harm bees, brood, or honey. The treatment stays in the ground around the hive base, where the beetles go, but the bees don’t.

Key Features

  • APVMA-registered — fully approved for use in Australia (Approval #93064/137869)
  • 15g/kg Temephos — Group 1B anticholinesterase insecticide
  • Targets SHB larvae in the soil — breaks the pupation cycle
  • Australian-made and developed — 5 years of trials on commercial hives
  • Lasts up to 3 months per application — long-lasting protection
  • Easy to apply — light sprinkle around the hive base, no special equipment
  • Granular formulation — stays in place, won’t blow away or wash off easily
  • Bee-safe when used as directed — applied to soil, not the hive interior
  • 750g pack — generous size for hobby and sideliner beekeepers; larger packs available on request

How to use Temephos SHB Granule

Always follow the APVMA-approved label for full instructions. As a general guide:

  • Application: Lightly sprinkle granules in a band on the ground around the hive base, following the label rates exactly
  • Timing: Apply preventatively in spring/early summer before SHB pressure peaks, and after any major SHB infestations
  • Repeat: Application typically lasts up to 3 months — repeat as necessary
  • Soil moisture: Do NOT apply to dry soil — the label specifies appropriate soil moisture conditions for activity
  • Pair with hive-level controls: Use alongside in-hive SHB traps and good hive management for comprehensive coverage

Important: read the label carefully and follow all APVMA-approved directions. This is a regulated chemical product with specific handling, application, and safety requirements.

Strong colonies + ground treatment = your best SHB defence

Here’s something we tell every beekeeper: the strongest defence against Small Hive Beetle is a strong, populous colony. Strong hives have plenty of guard bees to keep beetles out, fast hygiene to remove eggs and larvae, and stable temperatures that beetles don’t tolerate well. Weak or stressed colonies are SHB magnets.

Temephos Granule complements strong-colony management by handling the part of the life cycle that happens outside the hive — the part your bees can’t defend against. Together, strong colonies and effective ground treatment give you comprehensive SHB control across the whole life cycle.

Safety and Storage

  • Schedule 5 — POISON chemical
  • Wear chemical-resistant gloves when handling
  • Avoid breathing dust during application
  • Wash your hands thoroughly after handling
  • Keep away from children, pets, and food/feed
  • Avoid contamination of waterways — NEVER allow runoff to enter creeks, dams, or stormwater
  • Protect wildlife — apply carefully to avoid exposing birds and other animals
  • Store in a cool, dry place in the original sealed container
  • Anticholinesterase compound — DO NOT use if you are sensitive to organophosphates or have related medical conditions
  • For poisoning, call Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26

Mandatory Record Keeping

By using any APVMA-registered chemical, you should maintain treatment records including date, location, product, dose, and applicator details. Records should be kept for at least 2 years and made available to authorities on request.

Baby bumps and bodyguards
Format: Kindle
Dark, emotional, and unexpectedly tender, Not Ready is an omegaverse romance that delivers found family feels, fierce protectiveness, and a very pregnant heroine who refuses to break. Vale’s on the run from a stalker, but lands in the arms of three private security alphas, cue the swoony tension, fake marriage twist, and slow-burn heat. It’s a little gritty, a little soft, and a whole lot addictive. If you love protective alphas, high stakes, and heroines with quiet strength, this one’s a must-read.

Strong Omegaverse Comfort and a Attention Grabbing Plot
Format: Kindle
Jillian West never misses when it comes to Omegaverse, and Not Ready is no exception. This story was the perfect blend of cozy comfort and emotional depth while still delivering a strong plot. Vale is such a powerful heroine, she is strong, capable, and determined but I love that she still allows her pack to love and take care of her. It’s that balance of independence and vulnerability that makes her so relatable. The relationship dynamics were amazing: Bishop is steadfast and completely head over heels, Mercy is skeptical but protective in his own way, and Holt is the hesitant one whose slow fall is so satisfying to watch unfold. The romance hits that sweet spot between insta-love and cautious build, keeping me hooked the entire way through. And that ending. Oh my god, the cliffhanger! I need the next book in this duet immediately.

Interesting
Format: Kindle
So I will say I enjoyed the story, for sure had its moments where it dragged but it was a great story. I really liked that omegas picked their alphas/make the pack. Normally the Alphas make it and the omega fits in with them which is great but I enjoyed this new version where all the power basically went to the omega. It was a nice change of pace. I can admit some of the weird bedroom stuff with her being pregnant was odd, it’s really not hard to do stuff when pregnant (I know I’ve had two and it’s normal and even encouraged at the end especially if you want the baby out). But I like the story as a whole and will read the second, I do hope the next one isn’t dragged bc it stopped being action or tense after she met her alphas and I don’t think it was brought up or properly done when they tried to do it. More sweet after she left.

I’m a little disappointed.
Format: Kindle
I usually like Jillian West’s books but this one was missing a lot for me. The pregnancy didn’t come across as real. She’s on her feet for 12 hour days but is perfectly healthy at 8 months pregnant? Yet the week she moves in all of a sudden she’s not? She is planning on actually running during one of the plot buildups. But at 8 months pregnant that’s incredibly hard to do. The lack of breathing ability and lung space, the change in body center, mass, and gravity. All of it prohibits running, unless you’re an athlete this didn’t come off as at all realistic. I didn’t feel any connection with the alphas. There wasn’t any emotional connection. It could be because of the tense it was written in. But I didn’t get any deep feelings out of this. It came across as checking off boxes. Even the spicy scenes weren’t really believable for me. I wanted to see them fall for her, and it just kind of all fizzled. Even Bishop. One thing I did really like was the ending. I did not see it coming and I’m interested in reading book two because of it. But on the whole this book was mostly disappointing for me.
